It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our much beloved Mother. Leona passed away peacefully at Hospice Simcoe in Barrie on January 20, 2024, following a brief illness. Leona was formerly of Maxwell and just shy of her 99th birthday. She is now reunited with her beloved husband of 71 years, Jim (2016). Loving mother of Larry (Linda), Betty Anne (the late Richard) West, and Jean (Gordon) Crawford. Cherished Grammie of Pam, Christine, Debi, Larry Jr., Karen, Jason, and Jennifer. Great grandmother of Phillip, Meagan, Whitney, Kenneth, Bethany, Amanda, Cooper and Emberly. Great-great grandmother of Titus, Audrey, Breckin, and Jasper. Dear sister of Doris Hayward, Isobel Davison and Mac McIntyre. Predeceased by brothers George and Don McIntyre and sisters Lorine Cox and Maxine Loughead, daughter-in-law Barbara Brownridge and great granddaughter Amber Lyall-Ashby.
Leona was born on February 18, 1925 in Osprey Township to Meretta and Robert McIntyre. She graduated from Tryon College with honours. Following her marriage to Jim on April 21,1945, they took up farming just west of Maxwell on Highway 4. Leona had a great passion for life and in her earlier years she worked hard alongside Jim with custom farming and snow removal. Upon retirement, her days were kept busy with baking, knitting, reading, puzzling, watching Raptor games and keeping in touch with family and friends. She took pride as the Sunday School Secretary/Treasurer of Maxwell United Church, and later Rock Mills Baptist Church. Leona was well versed in the technology of the 21st century. She loved her tablet, allowing her to read many library books and watch her Church Service on YouTube.
Visitation will take place at Fawcett Funeral Cremation Reception, Flesherton on Saturday, January 27 from 11:00am until the time of service at 1:00pm. A reception will be held following the Service at the Flesherton Kinplex. A private Spring interment will take place at Maxwell Cemetery.
Memorial donations to Gideon’s International, Hospice Simcoe or First Baptist Church in Barrie, would be appreciated by the family. Online donations and condolences at www.fawcettfuneralhome.ca.
