Construction on a new road is set to get underway in Hanover next week. It’s intended to provide access to the planned new fire hall.
On April 2nd, council’s Committee of the Whole approved a staff recommendation to award the tender for the work to Cedarwell Excavating Inc., for a cost of about $489,000.
It would see the construction of 2nd Street from 18th Avenue to 130 meters to the east in Hanover’s business park in the southeast corner of town near the new senior school. It would include a new storm sewer, watermain, curb, gutter and sidewalk.
Staff say the project was included in the 2024 capital budget and approved by council.
Work is set to start the week of April 8th and be finished by June 30th.
The new fire station the road will provide access to is a $7.5 million dollar project that aims to be a net-zero carbon footprint fire hall. It will have four, double equipment bays, a drying tower, bunker gear room, universal washrooms, training room, mezzanine fire and emergency response training space, reception and fire administration areas.
