Two Grey County residents who police said were involved in an alleged kidnapping from a Mississauga nightclub last summer have had charges against them stayed.
An Owen Sound man and a Meaford woman were among nine people Peel Regional Police announced charges against last year, after an alleged incident in August 2023 when police claimed a Toronto woman who attended a club in the area of Britannia Road East and Dixie Road was kidnapped, forced into a stolen vehicle and held for 48 hours.
Peel Regional Police alleged the victim was taken to several locations in Owen Sound, before being released in the Toronto area. She wasn’t hurt.
Ontario Court of Justice Brampton staff now confirm a charge of kidnapping against Darren McCann of Owen Sound was stayed on March 21. Jessica Proctor of Meaford had charges against her of kidnapping and forcible confinement stayed on Feb. 23.
None of the allegations have been proven, and the stay of charges effectively suspends the criminal cases.
Police also said in a release about the alleged incident they seized nearly $240,000 worth of drugs, two extended handgun magazines and ammunition after executing search warrants at several residences and vehicles in Owen Sound and throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
