Huron Shores Hospice is gearing up for its annual hiking fundraiser.
Community Engagement Coordinator Will LeGrand says the 8th Annual Hike for Hospice event is set for this Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at The Davidson Centre in Kincardine.
“It’s a campaign that happens all across Canada during national Hospice Palliative Care Week,” says LeGrand. “Our community is coming together to raise funds for our hospice and to connect and honour the loved ones who are guests in our hospice.”
He says the hike is about two hours and people can either take part in a mapped three or five kilometre trail, but participants can also go out on their own.
“The idea is just to have us all come together and celebrate and honour the loved ones and families who have been touched by our hospice,” says LeGrand.
At this time, he says they have 100 participants ready to head out to help meet this year’s goal of $60,000.
“We expect more to come in and plenty of other people who are collecting pledges in person with our paper pledge form,” says Le Grand. “That money is going to go towards maintaining the operations of our residential hospice.”
He says this is one of the two major fundraisers of the year for the hospice, with the other being Handbags for Hospice in the fall.
