A recently held event in Owen Sound is looking to boost development in the area.
The Owen Sound Development Dialogue event at the Georgian College campus on Tuesday brought together 29 stakeholders, regional and local residential as well as commercial developers, and local organizations like Bruce Power, Nuclear Innovation Institute (NII), and Georgian College.
The city says the event was organized with the goal to better align future residential and commercial development with economic growth and workforce housing needs in Owen Sound.
The event featured a number of speakers and presentations, including Georgian College’s Executive Director of the Owen Sound campus Dave Shorey, who talked about the programs the college offers to meet local economic needs. These programs include training in clean energy, healthcare, technology, and others.
The NII further elaborated on the economic impacts of the clean energy industry, including their benefits like job creation and investment opportunities.
“The clean energy sector has been identified as a significant driver of job creation in the region, supporting 22,000 direct and indirect jobs annually,” says the city.
Following this meeting, Owen Sound be working with the development community and local industry.
Mayor Ian Boddy says, “events like the Owen Sound Development Dialogue are instrumental in bringing together regional and local developers with major industry stakeholders. These discussions are vital for aligning our development plans with the anticipated economic and demographic shifts.”
