A citizens group that looks for missing people is conducting a search in the Saugeen Shores area this weekend.
Please Bring Me Home says on Facebook, on Sunday, July 14th, they plan to search the shoreline south of Port Elgin for any evidence relating to the 1995 disappearances of two men, Simon Weidemann and Erwyn Lippett.
They will also search for any sign of Lijun S who disappeared from the area of Denny’s Dam in Southampton in January.
The group has conducted other, recent searches for Lijun, who had been fishing before he disappeared.
Please Bring Me Home says, back on July 21st 1995, around 8 p.m., Weidemann and Lippett left their campsite at Brucedale Conservation Area in a canoe, but didn’t return. Their families contacted police.
Please Bring Me Home says, the following morning at 7:45 a.m., the canoe, two life jackets and two paddles were found floating in the water.
Group founder Nick Oldrieve says Lippett’s son and Weidemann’s daughter will be taking part.
The group is looking for able bodied volunteers to take part in the search.
Oldrieve says those who want to help can private message him on the group’s Facebook page or email noldrieve.pbmh@gmail.com
Oldrieve says to give your full name, email and phone number. They plan to cover an area from roughly Bruce Power, north to the south end of MacGregor Point.
The meeting point is the Brucedale Conservation Area Pavillion between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. Sunday, July 14th.
The group Please Bring Me Home searches for missing people. It started with a focus on the Owen Sound area, and then in 2020, expanded nationwide. They have been successful in a number of searches locally, helping to find the remains of 33-year-old Keith Campbell and 37-year-old Justin Yeo in Hepworth in April of 2023 after they were reported missing January 1st of that year.
Their organization also helped find both the remains of 20-year-old Nolan Panchyshyn of Southampton and 55-year-old Terry Schope of Owen Sound in 2018. They also located Michael Samdass who was reported missing from Toronto in September 2019 and was found in the United States in a prison under a different name.
