1931 – 2024
After a life extremely well lived, our beloved father, David Creighton Taylor, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2024, at Southbridge in Owen Sound, Ontario, at the age of 93.
Beloved husband of 69 years to Roma, David was a loving and devoted father to Creighton Taylor (Lois), Deborah Donaldson (Ian) of Owen Sound, Paul Taylor (Bonnie) of Collingwood, Jeffrey Taylor (Kristie), and John Taylor (Jen), also of Owen Sound.
He was a cherished and admired “Bumpa” to Meghan (Mike), Jaffa (Tim), David, Taylor, Rorey (Devan), Shauna (John), Jesse (Chris), Paige (Mitch), Riley, Kieran, Reese, and Maya Taylor, as well as a proud great-grandfather to 11 great-grandchildren.
Son of the late Creighton and Jean Taylor, David was predeceased by his sisters, Shirley and Linda Taylor.
David began his journey as a third-generation jeweller with DC Taylor Jewellers, starting at the young age of 14 after the tragic loss of his father to a drowning accident in 1945, on Georgian Bay. Through hard work, resilience, and vision, he expanded the business into multiple locations, earning the admiration of his peers in the jewellery industry. One of the founding members of the Canadian Jewellery Group, David’s professional accomplishments and leadership were widely respected.
An avid tennis player throughout his life, David’s love for the sport brought him joy and lasting friendships both on and off the court. Deeply engaged in his community, David was a member of the Crescent Club (Past President), Rotary Club, Silver C’s, Northstar Lodge, and Ramoca Shrine. A passionate naturalist and outdoor enthusiast, he was actively involved with the Field Naturalists and Bruce Trail Club.
David also had a deep affection for black Labrador dogs, whose companionship brought him comfort and happiness throughout his life.
In retirement, David found happiness tending to his farm, cultivating his garden, caring for his donkey, and blazing trails in the woods. His humor and joie de vivre left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Although his passing leaves a gaping hole in the lives of his family, his legacy is vast and rich—one of kindness, generosity, joy, and mentorship. The family would like to acknowledge the friendship and companionship given by Dave Myatt, and Laurie Scherzer. Many thanks to the staff at Southbridge, for their wonderful professional compassionate care.
