The Owen Sound and District Chamber of Commerce says COVID-19 rapid antigen screening kits will soon be offered to businesses in the region.
Chamber CEO Diane Austin says it’s being done in collaboration with the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber of Commerce and the Ontario Chamber of Commerce.
Austin is presently setting up an online ordering system for businesses to acquire two of these these free tests kits per employee in Grey Bruce.
She explains, “When an employee walks in the door, they can be screened. It takes 15 minutes and they either send them home, or they’re negative.”
She says the kits are available for free through the Province and KW based company Communitech. The kit program has been piloted in the Cambridge and KW area where Austin says thousands of kits have gone out to businesses in that area.
She found out about the program from Troy Life & Fire Safety Ltd, in Owen Sound because they have a Cambridge location that was contacted during the tri-city pilot program.
“I called Kitchener and basically said to them, I want in on the ground level with this,” says Austin.
While Austin represents the Owen Sound and District Chamber of Commerce, she’s hoping to help the whole region, saying, “It’s not just for our (Chamber) members, it’s for all businesses.”
She hopes all interested Grey Bruce businesses will register, “We want it out there as much and as far as possible,” says Austin.
