Peacefully at Lee Manor on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. Born in Holland Township on February 21, 1931, Agnes Grange Bumstead (nee Sutherland) of Owen Sound, was in her 94th year.
Beloved wife of the late Walter Bumstead. Dear sister in law of Mae Sutherland of Chatsworth. Agnes will be missed by her many nieces, nephews and friends.
Predeceased by her siblings Ian Sutherland (Betty), Colin Sutherland (Carol), Ralph Sutherland, Kenneth Sutherland and Helen Sutherland.
Agnes balanced two great passions. Her love for farm life and all that came with it, and her dedication to education. As a teacher for over 35 years she worked to bring opportunity and success to students. At the same time she was busy canning, haying and milking with all the blisters to prove it. A volunteer with the church, our hospital and the Pioneer Girls. A wonderful friend and neighbor. A loving wife, daughter, sister and aunt. Her faith, optimism, tenacity and warmth are remembered and will always guide us.
A funeral service to celebrate Agnes’ life will be held at Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th St. W., Owen Sound, 519-376-7492, on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 12 p.m., with Rev. Ryan Tudor officiating. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be livestreamed. Spring interment will take place in McLean’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation, Arthritis Society Canada or Alliance Church would be appreciated. Online condolences can be sent to Agnes’s family by visiting her memorial at www.woodfuneralhome.ca.
