Peacefully at Chapman House on Wednesday, January 31, 2024. Born in Owen Sound on April 27, 1923, Alberta Beatrice Lemon (nee McKee) of Owen Sound, was in her 101st year.
Beloved wife of the late Lorne Lemon. Loving mother of Rick Lemon (Grace) of Flesherton, John Lemon (Jane) of Annan and Brad Lemon (Marilyn) of Annan. Cherished grandma of Lauren, Jaclyn (Jon), Kira (Dan), Brittney (Steve), Adam (Whitney), Maia, Mikayla (Jake), Ben (Vanessa), Joe and Jenny. Dear great grandma of Oake, Hailey, Giovanna and Zachary. Alberta will be missed by her nieces, nephews and friends.
Predeceased by her parents Norman and Beatrice McKee, and by her sister Janet Davey (Nelson).
Alberta played an active part in running the family farms as well as the family cottages at Sauble Beach. Her large vegetable garden was a source of great pride and her beautiful flower gardens brightened everyone’s day. During her husband Lorne’s time in municipal politics, Alberta was fortunate to meet so many wonderful people and a number of them became lifelong friends. Friendships that she cherished.
Church played an integral part in Alberta’s life and over the years she took on many roles at both the Johnston United Church and the Trinity Annan United Church. One of her favourite events was the Annan chicken barbecue which attracted hundreds of people. If you were lucky, it was here that you might score a slice of one of her prize-winning pies.
Many things brought joy and happiness to Alberta and one that brought the biggest smile was a visit from her grandchildren and, of course, her great grandchildren.
A funeral service to celebrate Alberta’s life will be held at Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th St. W., Owen Sound, 519-376-7492, on Monday, February 5, 2024, at 1 p.m., with visitation one hour prior. For those that are unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed. Spring interment will take place in Leith Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Trinity Annan United Church or to Chapman House are appreciated. Online condolences can be sent to Alberta’s family by visiting her memorial at www.woodfuneralhome.ca.
