Passed away peacefully at Lee Manor on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. Born on Saturday, March 1, 1930, Betty “Doreen” Barclay (née Stewart) of Owen Sound, was in her 96th year.
Beloved wife and best friend of the late Glenn Barclay. Loving mother of William Barclay (Melanie), and the late Darlene Kieswetter (Gerry). Cherished grandmother of Emily Backer (Corey), Ashley Barclay (Yosel), Megan Sanita (Michael), Christina Kieswetter (Evan), Joseph Kieswetter (Regan), and great-grandmother of Brody and Blake Backer, and Antonio, Vittoria,Alessandro, and Ilaria Sanita. Doreen will also be missed by her many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Predeceased by her parents Ernest and Elsie Stewart and her siblings Ernest Stewart (Dorothy), Elsie Stewart (Calvin), William Stewart (Alice), Robert Stewart (Shirley), Donald Stewart, Eleanor McNabb (Elgin), Mary King, Alice Smith (Sherman), and David Stewart (Donna).
Doreen loved being on the water with her beloved Glenn, where they enjoyedfishing and running the charter boat Starchief together. She also loved spending her time knitting, crocheting, baking, and playing cards, but nothing compared to the love she had for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A special thank you to the nurses and staff of 121 South Lee Manor for their compassionate care given to Doreen.
A funeral service to celebrate Doreen’s life will be held at Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250, 14th St. W., Owen Sound, 519-376-7492 on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at 11:30 with visitation one hour prior. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be livestreamed and a recorded version will be posted online. Interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery followed by a reception at the funeral home.
