McKay – Beverley
Our cherished mother, Beverley June McKay (nee Cooper) of Owen Sound passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, in her 88th year. Beloved wife for 63 years and now reunited with her soulmate Wilmer “Wil” McKay (2019).
Loving mother of Heather Salt (Greg), of Georgetown, David McKay (Elizabeth), of Owen Sound and Scott McKay (Alison), of Sooke, BC. Adored grandma of Andrew, Alec, Rebekah, Megan and Cameron. Beverley was dearly loved by her many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Reginald and Elsie Cooper; her brother, Brian Cooper (Midge); her parents-in-law, Wilfred and Martha McKay; her in-laws, Jack McKay (Pearl), Murray McKay (Doris) and Isobel Kirk (Dwayne). For most of their working years, Wil and Bev lived in Millgrove, Ontario where they and their children operated the Millgrove General Store and Post Office, enjoying the friendship of so many in their community. They retired to the Grey-Bruce area 22 years ago, residing in close proximity to Wil’s roots in Chatsworth where many generations of McKays have lived before. Those who knew Mom appreciated her sharp mind, keen memory exemplified by her uncanny ability to recite on demand unforgettable and richly descriptive poems and ballads, her love of literature and, most importantly, her kindness to others. A private Graveside Service for Beverley McKay will be held on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at Shiloh Cemetery, Chatsworth with Rev. Kristal McGee officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Chapman House Residential Hospice, Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation, First United Church Owen Sound or Sauble Beach United Church as an expression of sympathy and may be made through the Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th Street West, Owen Sound, Ontario N4K 3X8 (519-376-7492). A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date when social distancing restrictions are lifted.
