It’s never easy to say goodbye. Dan Rose, Distinguished Professional Agrologist (P.Ag, Dist.), formerly of Lochalsh, Emo, and Markdale, Ontario passed away on March 9th , in his 90th year, after a long battle with Alzheimers. Most recently, Dan was the Past-Chair of the Markdale Hospital Foundation and watched the new hospital take shape outside his living-room window. He took advantage of the healthcare team’s services many times in the past year including a short period of palliative care.
Beloved husband of Ruth (Webb), father of David (Barb), Alison, and Sheila (Mark). Grandfather to Katelyn and Heather (Tyler), Annie and Daniel. Proud Great-grandfather of James Fish.
Some of the places he loved were: The Farm (at Lochalsh); The Cabin (in Emo); and Boom Island, home of The Boom Island Hunt Club Inc. Though Dan was renowned for his hunting prowess, he will be most fondly remembered for his leadership as the Minister of Food at Boom Island. Dan’s prime rib was a highlight of our fall hunts, served rare to rave reviews by the members of the hunt club.
He will be missed by his friends and family in his many communities: Markdale, Lucknow & Ripley, Emo (in Rainy River District), and by his friends at OMAF, the OIA, the University of Guelph, the Guelph-Ghana Program, Annesley United Church, the Markdale Curling Club and the Centre Grey Health Services Foundation.
We would like to thank our Queen Street neighbours, Laura at VON, Megan at Ultima Home Care, Dr. Harvey Winfield and team in Flesherton, and the many nurses and doctors at the spectacular new Markdale Hospital, who have helped our family care for Dad through the Covid years and beyond as his health declined.
Funeral arrangements are being managed by Fawcett Funeral Home (Flesherton).
