Of Oxenden, suddenly at London Health Sciences Centre – Victoria Hospital, in London, on Monday September 13, 2021. David John “Jack” Mallard Sr. at the age of 82 years.
Loving husband and best friend to Jeanette (nee Smart) for over 61 years.
Dear father of David Jr. (Cecile), of Oxenden, Kathleen (Bruce Creighton), of Oakville, Sandra (Elliott Good), of Oliphant, and Deanne Mallard (ex Blake Crothers), of Winnipeg, MB. Cherished grandfather of Josh, Ania, Kaitlin, Jack, Sam, Wesley, Hayden, Rowan, and Imogen; and great-grandfather of Colt. Sadly missed by his sister Marion (Dave Hill), of Owen Sound; Jeanette’s brothers and sisters; and by his many nieces, and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Harold and Kathleen Mallard; brother, Bert Mallard; and by a grandson, Dakota Mallard.
As a husband, father and grandfather Jack shared with us a love of history, nature, gardening, hunting and a general curiosity of life. For a man who reveled in the past he embraced technology with a passion. A natural storyteller and great campfire guitarist, he was also an unpublished author and working on a memoir which his family will help him complete. Born and raised on the farm, he was able to combine his love of travel with his career as a millwright. On water this found him sailing the Great Lakes and down the Mississippi. On land it took him coast to coast, from gold mines in British Columbia to silver mines in Newfoundland. Other highlights of his career included teaching millwrighting at Georgian College for many years before retiring from Pilkington Glass of Collingwood. He truly was the ‘I’ve been everywhere man’ and will be loved and missed by his family.
A private, family celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family wish to express their sincere gratitude to Dr David Diodati (of Wiarton) for his attentive support and compassion. In addition, they appreciate the care provided by the Victoria Hospital staff during Jack’s brief illness.
Arrangements made at the Thomas C. Whitcroft Peninsula Chapel, Wiarton (519) 534-5341. Cremation with interment in Oxenden Cemetery as per Jack’s wishes. Donations to the BPH Foundation – Wiarton would be appreciated as an expression of sympathy. Condolences may be expressed online at www.whitcroftfuneralhome.com
