Of Meaford, peacefully on Sunday, February 5, 2023 with her family by her side at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie in her 80th year.
She was a daughter of the late Clarence and Blanche (nee Harvey) Johnston, and daughter-in-law of the late Harold and Earla (nee Manuel) Hill.
Donna was the cherished wife of Winston Hill for over 59 years. She was the admired mother of sons Scott (Sandra), Mark (Carrie) and daughter Tammy (Doug).
Donna was the proud nanny of Tierney, Travis (Courtney), Tristan (Alex), Trent, Brinley and Brogan, and predeceased by granddaughter Taryn in 2013. She will be remembered by Brinley and Brogan’s father, Paul Lackey.
Donna was also blessed with two great granddaughters, Payton and Ameila, and Travis and Courtney have a baby boy on the way.
She will be missed by her sister, Gail Murray (Bev), brother-in-law Ted Hill (Alison) and sister-in-law, Marilyn Gilchrist (Bev). Donna was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Don Hill and sister-in-law, Sharon Hill. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews and their families.
Donna was happiest when she was surrounded by her family and all of their friends. She enjoyed hosting many friends for card night or an evening of festivities. The door was always open and you were met with a smile every time. She never missed a hockey, ringette or ball game. She was our biggest cheerleader. Donna took every opportunity she could to brag about her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; they were definitely her pride and joy. She enjoyed spending her summers at the trailer in Fenelon Falls for the past 38 years. She always enjoyed campfires with her extended trailer family at Log Chateau. She was renowned for making the world’s best carrot cake with her signature trick ~ double the cream cheese icing. In her early years, Donna enjoyed playing broomball. She also enjoyed watching Winston play ball and hockey, umpire and referee. Donna worked at Brown’s Red and White, Clarksburg Cold Storage, Amerock, and then retired from her job in housekeeping at the Meaford General Hospital.
A private family service will be held at Ferguson Funeral Home on Saturday, February 11th, 2023. Family will receive friends and extended family in the Gallery at Meaford Hall,12 Nelson St E. for a public Celebration of Donna’s Life on Saturday, February 11th, 2023 from 1 until 4pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Meaford Hospital Foundation or Owen Sound Hospital Foundation (Stroke Rehabilitation Team) and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON N4L 1B9 to whom arrangements have been entrusted.
