Doreen passed away peacefully at her home with her loving family by her side, on Monday, September 6, 2021. Born on May 21, 1941 in Digby, Nova Scotia, Doreen Edith Raco (née Spencer) was in her 81st year.
Dearly loved wife and best friend of Ed Raco for 55 years. Loving mother of David Raco (Colleen), Colleen Baker (Bruno), both of Owen Sound, Pamela Cape (Brian), of Ottawa and Rochelle VanKooten (Dave), of Owen Sound. Proud grandmother of Joe, Hayley (Lane), Sabrina, Gabrielle, Alexia, Zachary, Matthew, Drew, Phoebe and great-grandmother of Rhett. Dear sister of Jean Curley, of Owen Sound, George Spencer, of Brantford, Pauline Horsburg (Al), of Holstein and Sylvia Gazzola, of Guelph. Aunt Doreen will also be missed by her many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Percy and Edith Spencer, her sister, Mildred McPhee, her in-laws, Danny McPhee, Frank Curley, Rita Spencer and Aldo Gazzola.
We would like to thank Dr Aboo and the oncology team, for all their support over the past 2 1/2 years. Thank you to Care Partners, Karen and all the nurses and PSW that came to the house. You helped us make the last few days incredible for Mom. And lastly – a special thank to Dr. Tweedie. Thank you for all the care and compassion you gave to Mom. You also gave us the confidence that we could take care of Mom in the most beautiful setting imaginable, in her own home. THANK YOU!
Doreen was a prominent business woman who owned and operated McDonald’s Flower Cart in Owen Sound for 48 years with the support of her whole family. NOTE: McDonald’s Flower Cart will be closed on Saturday, September 11, 2021 for the staff to attend Doreen’s funeral.
Visitation will be held at the Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, Owen Sound, 519-376-7492, on Friday evening from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Private Funeral Service to celebrate Doreen’s life will be held in the chapel on Saturday, September 11, 2021 with Rev. Heather McCarrel officiating. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery.
