Fern Park (nee Cornfield) passed away peacefully at the age of 100 at the Meaford Hospital on Sunday, July 30, 2023 after celebrating a wonderful century of life.
Born in Euphrasia Township on November 30, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Elva (nee Elford) Cornfield.
She is predeceased by her first husband Carl Thompson in 1989 and second husband Ivan Park in 2011.
Fern will be missed by her loving son Wayne and his wife Donna Thompson. She was the proud grandmother of grandson Scott and his wife Melissa, and great grandchildren Logan and Avery; and granddaughter Lori and great grandchildren Matthew, Justin and James.
Fern is predeceased by her siblings, Gerald (Audrey), Harold (Wilma) and Freda (Leighton) Vail and was a special aunt to many nieces, nephews and their families.
She was a special neighbour to the Hewgill family and will be fondly remembered by Linda (nee Hewgill) Venning and her family.
Fern grew up on the 4th line of Meaford and spent many years working on the family farm with her younger siblings. Growing up during the depression, they made the best with what they had on the farm, including learning excellent baking skills. She loved to attend the local fairs, read many books and captured many photos, proudly owning over 40 cherished photo albums.
In her later years, after the passing of Carl, Fern travelled with friends and family near and far. Fern married her neighbour Ivan Park in 1992 and they spent 19 years together in Orchard Park until Ivan’s passing. She later moved to Errinrung Retirement Home, she made many friends and enjoyed her time there chatting with old and new friends. Fern looked forward to visits and phone calls, she appreciated each and every one. A special thanks to ‘Linda 1, Linda 2 and Darcy’ for all of their help and support over the years.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Church of Christ in Meaford on Friday, August 4, 2023 at 11 o’clock with visiting the hour prior to service. A private interment will take place at Thornbury-Clarksburg Union Cemetery at a later time.
