Florence passed away peacefully at the Owen Sound Hospital on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 in her 98th year.
Born on October 9, 1926 and raised on the 4th line of Euphrasia Township, Florence was the third of four daughters of the late Israel Curry and Edith (nee Raggett of England) Curry.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, C. Maurice Brown, and her sisters, May Boyd (late Herb), Helen Vickers (late Vernon and Gerald Boyes), and Pauline Palmer (late Don).
Florence had two sons, Larry Maurice Brown (Marjorie) and David Robert Brown (Denise Turner), four grandchildren; Rebecca Brown, Natalie Brown (Antoine Desilets), Ethan Brown (Nicole), and Danielle (Josh Lobb). She was the proud great grandmother of Hunter, Mason, Brooklynn, Daemia, and Kai.
Florence was a farmer at heart. She and her sisters worked hard on their parents’ farm. They didn’t have any of the modern conveniences that we now take for granted. She always valued hard work and people who didn’t shy away from it. She loved telling stories of those times. Florence was proud of the crops, vegetables and flowers she grew her whole life. She was a regular contributor to the Meaford and Rocklyn Fall Fairs. To say she was competitive was an understatement.
Florence loved to sew and quilt. She was a member of the quilting group at the Meaford United Church for decades and enjoyed their quilt show each year. She also was an avid hockey and curling fan. Her TV usually had a game on in the winter time.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Meaford United Church on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at 11 o’clock, with visiting the hour prior to service.
As your expression of sympathy, donations to the Meaford Hospital Foundation or the Owen Sound Hospital Foundation would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON N4L 1B9 to whom arrangements have been entrusted.
