Garry Douglas Lougheed passed away surrounded by his family’s love on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at the Markdale Hospital in his 80th year.
Garry was the beloved husband of Velma (nee Rear) for 52 years and adored father to Angie (Brent) of Paris and Tammy (Grant) of Durham. He will be an especially missed Papa by his grandchildren Sydney, Brooke, Spencer and Ashley. Garry will be sadly missed by his brother-in-law Gene Rear (Deb), extended family and friends and close-knit neighbours. Predeceased by his parents Douglas and Irene, step father Albert Harmer, step brother Ian “Joe” Harmer and mother and father-in-law, Burton and Helen Rear.
By trade, Garry was a skilled machinist at Teledyne for over 40 years. He was a cowboy at heart who enjoyed working with his horses and raising Charolais cattle. Garry was happiest when surrounded by his family “up on the mountain”. His 4 Grandchildren were his pride and joy, they all made him so proud due to their interest in agriculture. He also enjoyed in his later years, tending to his vegetable garden and especially his roses. Visitors would often go home with a special hand-picked bouquet of roses.
A special thank you to Dr. Recoskie and April and the Markdale Hospital Emergency Department, Nurses and to Dr. Powers for making Garry’s last days comfortable. The care for our family was exceptional.
‘We love you Gar, Dad and Papa and will miss you forever!’
A Celebration of Garry’s Life will be held on Saturday May 13, 2023 from 1 until 4 p.m. Family and Friends will be received at the Osprey Community Centre with special tributes by family at 2 p.m.
