Surrounded by loved ones, at Brightshores Health System, Markdale on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 in his 86th year. Beloved partner of Dorothy Anderson. Loving father of Sandra McCracken (Mike Hamilton) of Cookstown, Dan of Acton, Neil (Gwen) of Toronto. Cherished grandfather of Jesse McCracken (Meaghan Drummond) of Toronto, Adam of New Hampshire, USA, Chet and Ava of Toronto. He will be missed by Dorothy’s son Jeff (Lana) of Ancaster, the late Steven Anderson and their children and grandchildren and her brother Ron Thompson of Kitchener. Predeceased by his sister Evelyn (2014) and “Aunt” Clara Snell.
Jerry was born March 7, 1939 in Markdale, Ontario to Clarence and Grace (Lees)Bartley. Jerry had a long time career in the automotive industry. Through the years he found great reward in customer service sales and many may remember him from his years at Alton Pontiac Buick, Hutchinson Family Automotive , Hal Wright Chev Olds, Allan’s Garage and Car Quest Auto Parts. Jerry was also a proud member of Markdale Rotary club. He will be remembered as a past president , also a recipient of the Paul Harris award and became an Honourary Rotarian. Jerry lived his life in Markdale and was considered to be a “pillar” of the community. He enjoyed sharing stories , history and memories of his beloved town. Jerry was also known for his great sense of humor and his quick one liners.
The family would like to thank the staff of Markdale Hospital, with a special thanks to the palliative unit, for their care and compassion in Jerry’s final days.
The family will receive friends at Annesley United Church, Markdale, on Monday from 10:30am until the time of service at 12noon. Cremation has taken place and Jerry will be laid to rest in the Markdale Cemetery at a later date.
