Helen Agnes Sweeney (nee Sexsmith), of Durham and formerly Dornoch, passed away at Rockwood Terrace, Durham on Friday, September 29th, 2023 in her 89th year.
Beloved wife of the late Pat Sweeney. Loving mother of Frank and Brenda, Dan, Anne Marie, Jim and his wife Diane, Maureen and her husband Calvin Rydall, Mary Kay and her husband André Jolin, and John. Cherished grandmother of Erin (Marc), Ryan (Andrea), Melissa (Julian), Sean (Charlene), Becky (Sisco), Allison, Eric (Erica), Dillon, Michael, Thomas and Emilie. Great-grandmother of Riley, Madeliene, Zachary, Keenan, Renee, Aubrey, Luke, and Hannah. Survived by her sister Marjorie Simon. Fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her parents Frank and Marguerite Sexsmith, her siblings and their spouses: Mary and Roly Belanger, Evelyn and Doug Nicholson, Dorothy and Doug Brickman, Jack and Caroline Sexsmith, and Jim and Jean Sexsmith, her uncle Leonard Walsh, and her daughters-in-law Sue Sweeney and Chris Sweeney.
Visitation will be held at the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, Durham on Tuesday, October 3rd from 4 – 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Dornoch on Wednesday at 12 p.m., with visitation at the church from 10:45 – 11:45 a.m. Interment at St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to St. Paul’s Catholic Church or the Durham Agricultural Society would be appreciated by the family.
