Helen Mary Duffield, of Durham, passed away at Riverbend Place, Cambridge on Saturday, February 20th, 2021 in her 89th year. Beloved wife of the late James Birch Duffield (1972). Loving mother of Joanne and her husband Paul Densmore, and Carol Bonnett, all of Cambridge. Cherished grandmother of James Densmore (Casey Subject); Bryson Densmore (Hayley); Hunter Bonnett (Allie Visser); Logan Bonnett, and great-grandmother of Henry Densmore. Dear sister of John Morlock and his wife Marilyn of Owen Sound, and Robert Morlock and his late wife Donna of New Liskeard. Predeceased by her parents Bryson and Daisy Morlock, and her brothers Bruce (1931) and Lorne (1947).
Born in Durham in 1932, Helen was a direct descendant of Durham’s founding family, the Hunters. She grew up in Holstein, returning to Durham in 1963 with her husband, Jim, and two daughters, Joanne and Carol, after living in Owen Sound for six years.
Helen worked as a teller at the Royal Bank in Durham for 22 years. She was an active member of Knox United Church until she left Durham in 2018, moving to Cambridge to be near her daughters. She was on the Church board as Treasurer for several years, a member of the UCW, and helped in the church kitchen. She was also a member of the singing group, Silver Threads, for many years, which brought her a great deal of pleasure. Helen loved to play bridge and was a member of several bridge clubs, as well as enjoying playing euchre at the church and the Orange Hall. She was involved with the Durham Figure Skating Club for many years, as the Treasurer, when her daughters were active members of the club.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Durham Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to Diabetes Canada or CNIB would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, Durham.
