It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our beloved husband, father and papa. Bev passed away peacefully in his 90th year at Grey Bruce Health Services on February 11, 2023 with family at his side.
He leaves a legacy of happy memories for his beloved wife of 67 years, Shirley Byers (nee Moore) and their children, Jill Calder of Listowel and David Byers (Tanya), of Walkerton. Papa is loved and missed by his grandchildren William Calder, Samuel Byers, Jessica Byers and Claire Calder. Predeceased by his parents Louis and Irene Byers, his sisters, Winnibelle Robinson, Doris Woods and Lola Hicks and his brother Orval Byers. Lovingly remembered by his sister-in-law Jean Byers and his nieces and nephews.
Bev grew up loving sports and was a skilled hockey and ball player. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and family gatherings and in retirement he loved winters in Florida and morning coffee with the guys. He was a lifelong Leafs and Blue Jays fan and above all a proud and supportive dad and papa. His loving family will always remember his kind and gentle way. The family extends a sincere thank you to all the staff at the G.B.H.S. in Owen Sound for their compassionate care. An informal come and go visitation will be held in the reception room at the Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th St. W. Owen Sound on Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. with memories shared at 3:30 p.m.
Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held at Greenwood Cemetery. If so desired, memorial donations to the Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
