Alex McLean passed away peacefully under the wonderful care at Grove Park Home in Barrie on Monday, August 9, 2021 in his 99th year.
Born in Meaford on February 25, 1923, he was a son of the late William and Cassie (nee Smith) McLean.
Alex was predeceased by his beloved wife Dorothy (nee Godfrey) McLean in 2004.
He was the loving father of Deborah Carter (Roy) and John McLean (Diane).
Alex was the proud Grandpa of Sarah (Matt), Scott, Justin, Colin, Adam, Bob and Erin, and the Great Grandpa of Henry.
He will be missed dearly by his brother Doug McLean (Rose) and was predeceased by his brothers Don McLean (late Flora) and Ken McLean. He will be remembered fondly by his many nieces, nephews and their families.
Alex loved spending time reminiscing with people. He was a longtime member of the Rexdale and Meaford Lions Club and always felt a desire to serve his community. He thoroughly enjoyed the many years he spent volunteering as a driver for the CNIB and the Cancer Society, making sure patients were able to safely get to and from their appointments. He also enjoyed delivering the church bulletin and having a little visit with those who were unable to attend church. He liked to make life easier for others in any way he could. Alex and Dorothy retired to the Meaford area from Toronto. He loved to garden and enjoyed sharing his produce with family and friends. ‘Grandpa/Uncle Al’ was known for his delicious apple pies which he lovingly prepared for family events.
A private family service will be conducted at the Ferguson Funeral Home on Friday, August 13, 2021 with a service of committal and interment following at Lakeview Cemetery in Meaford.
