It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of James Duncan MacArthur at age 95 at Lee Manor on November 28, 2020. He was the loving husband of Jean Margaret MacArthur (McGregor) for seventy-two years. He is lovingly remembered by his four children: Brent (Mary Jane), Barbara Murphy (Jim, deceased), Eugene (Rosemary), and Lisa Given (Dan). Proud grandfather of Heather (Jack), Scott (Courtney), Paige (Grant) and Andrew. Loving great grandfather of Addie, Ben, Elsie, Jaxon, Tristan, James, Dante, Sofie, Isabella, Madeline and Arlo. Survived by his brother Burnie of Nova Scotia. Predeceased by his parents Duncan and Estella MacArthur, two brothers, Alex and Leslie, and his sister May.
Jim started his career as a chartered accountant in Owen Sound after completing business college. He then worked for the Victoria and Grey Trust Company (National Trust) for thirty- four years until his retirement in 1990.
Jim was a member of the Independent Order of Oddfellows for over sixty-five years and the Owen Sound Legion.
He was a kind and caring man who loved watching sports, playing cards, reading and working in his garden. Jim also liked to travel with his wife Jean and to spend quality time with his children and grandchildren. He was a dedicated member and volunteer at Central Westside United Church.
A private family funeral service will be held and live streamed on Thursday, December 3 ,2020 at 3:00pm from the Breckenridge-Ashcroft Funeral Home, Owen Sound. Interment Greenwood Cemetery, Owen Sound.
