Peacefully at Summit Place on Sunday, November 17, 2024. Born in London on March 16, 1937, James Russell Vamplew of Owen Sound, was in his 88th year.
Beloved husband for 66 years of Betty Vamplew (nee McCrae) of Owen Sound. Loving father of Elizabeth Jayn Vamplew of Barrie, Julie Watton (Dan) of Owen Sound and Carol Frook (Brian) of Owen Sound. Cherished grandpa of Robert (Lexy), Andrew, Jacquelyn, Elizabeth (Jon), Jonathon (Morgan) and Edward. Great grandpa of Henry and Tucker. Dear brother of Suzanne Vamplew of Owen Sound. Jim will also be missed by his nieces, nephews and friends.
Predeceased by his parents Russell and Marie Vamplew, and by his brother Gary Vamplew (Gloria).
Jim was an active member of the Masonic Lodge and Ramoca Shrine Club for over 50 years. He was a member and past Commodore of the Georgian Yacht Club. He was also a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Billy Bishop Airport, C.O.P.A. (Canadian Owners and Pilots Association) and Legacy Ridge Golf Club. Jim also was an amateur (“ham”) radio operator.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the staff at the Owen Sound Hospital, Chapman House and at Summit Place for their kind and compassionate care for Jim over the past few months.
In keeping with Jim’s wishes, cremation is taking place and a Celebration of Life will be held in the reception hall at St. George’s Anglican Church, 1049 4th Ave E., Owen Sound, on Saturday, December 7, 2024 from 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Arrangements are entrusted to Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, Owen Sound, 519-376-7492. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to The Ramoca Shrine Club or to Chapman House would be appreciated.
