Jan “John” Winkels of Chesley, passed away with family by his side at Brucelea Haven, Walkerton on Thursday, February 20, 2025, in his 101st year.
Beloved husband of Henderientje “Doreen” (Schuit). Loving father of Luke of Burgessville, Elizabeth (Amal) Nypiuk of Annan, Henry (Christina) of R.R. #1 Chesley, Doreen (Peter) Zehr of Wiarton, John (Karen) of Chesley, Evert (JoAnne) of Brantford. John will be fondly remembered by his 32 grandchildren, 100 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Aaltje Kuiper, and brother-in-law of Bertha Looyenga, Jannie Schuit, Jenny (Hank) Bouman. John will be fondly remembered by Beverly Brouwer, as well as by his many nieces, nephews, and their families.
He was predeceased by his son Gerald Winkels (1974), daughter Ruby Brouwer (1995), daughter-in-law Gerda Winkels (2019), son-in-law Tony Brouwer (2021), grandson Jared Brouwer (2025), grandson-in-law Robert Woodford (2003), brother Hendrick, sisters Margje Wobben, and Jentje Boesenkool, and his parents, Lucas and Ruby (Timmerman) Winkels.
Visitation will be held at Rhody Family Funeral Home, Chesley on Monday, February 24, 2025, (TODAY) from 5 – 8 p.m. and again on Tuesday from 11 – 11:45 a.m. A funeral service will follow at Ebenezer Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland, Chesley on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at 12 noon. Spring interment in Chesley Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Ebenezer Free Presbyterian Church or Trinitarian Bible Society would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
