February 11, 1919 – June 5, 2021
Peacefully, with family at her side, on Saturday, June 5th, 2021 at Hannah Walker Place, Owen Sound, in her 103rd year. Joan (nee Rabnett) was the beloved wife of Herbert (2011) for close to 70 years. She is the loving mother of John and his wife Donna, Rick and his wife Teressa, Catherine and her husband John Donnelly, Bob, Frank, and Ted. She is the proud Grandma of David (Tammy), Michael (Beata), Matt (Nicole), Lucas, Chris (Marissa), Ryan, Paige (Matt) and Johnny; and Great Grandma of Rachel, Nick, Josh, Georgia, Scarlett, Nicholas, Henry and Sarah. Joan was predeceased by her brother Jerome Rabnett.
Joan spent her teenage and adult life in Owen Sound and became involved in many community activities. A devout Roman Catholic, she was a long-time member of the Catholic Women’s League, giving countless hours to organizing bazaars and other good works of the organization.
Along with Herb she was a founding member of the Bayshore Seniors and the St. Mary’s Seniors organizations.
The family wishes to express thanks to Summitt Place Lodge for their compassionate care of their Mother over the past few years, and most recently to the care-givers of Hannah Walker Place where she was treated with utmost care.
A private family funeral mass will be held and live streamed from St. Mary’s and the Missions Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 9th, 2021 at 11:00am. Following the mass, due to current restrictions, interment at St. Mary’s cemetery will be restricted to family members. A celebration of Joan’s life will be planned for a future date.
