John passed away peacefully with his loving wife and children by his side at the Grey Bruce Health Services in Southampton, on Tuesday morning, March 1, 2022.
Born on May 16, 1930 in Owen Sound, John Richard Roberts, of Owen Sound, was in his 92nd year.
Dearly loved wife and best friend of Violet Roberts (nee McMillan) for 70 years. Loving father of Kathie Luckhardt (Sam), of Owen Sound, Dave Roberts (Debbie), of Fergus, Barb Arthur (Vic), Paul Roberts (Sue), Mavis Beckett (John), all of Owen Sound, Janice Ludlow (Greg), of Barrie, Mike Roberts (Laurie), of Owen Sound and the late Susan McDonald (2017) (Larry of Shallow Lake). Proud grandfather of 23 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Dear brother-in-law of Chuck Slemin, of Vancouver and Barb Roberts, of Owen Sound. John will be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews and the McMillan family.
Predeceased by his parents, David and Johanna Roberts, his daughter-in-law, Donna Roberts, his sister, Mary Slemin and his brother, David Roberts.
John worked for Ontario Hydro for 37 year and has been retired for 34 years. He enjoyed his back yard garden and fishpond. He was very involved in minor sports throughout his years and thus John was inducted into the Owen Sound Sports Hall of Fame in 2006 as a builder. He will be greatly missed.
A Visitation for friends and family will be held at Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th Street West, Owen Sound, 519-376-7492. on Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. All attendees must wear a mask and follow social distancing protocols. A Private Mass of Christian Burial for John Roberts will be held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 554 – 15th Street East, Owen Sound, on Friday, March 4, 2022 with Father Francis Hubilla officiating. Spring interment in St. Mary`s Cemetery, Owen Sound. A Vigil will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday at 5:45 p.m. prior to the visitation.
