Passed away peacefully at the Bennett Centre on February 3, 2025. Born in Owen Sound on February 20, 1929, Ken was in his 96th year.
Beloved husband of Maudie Lois Douglas (predeceased) of Owen Sound. Loving father of Kenneth Douglas (Christine) of Vancouver Island, Wendy Behling (Martin) of Acton, and Michelle Ratkowski (Terry) of Kingston. Cherished grandfather of Kristen, Stacey, Regan, Erich, Rebecca, Adam, and Abby. Great Grandfather to 9. Predeceased by his parents; Stewart and Lorraine Douglas; and his siblings Marjorie Bauman (Carmen), and Donald Douglas (Violet). Ken will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, and friends.
While teenagers, Ken found love with Maudie at Harrison Park Inn. He married his high school sweetheart and spent over 74 years together. Ken spent most of his working years as owner and operator of Douglas Cleaners in Owen Sound. As well, he was a member of the Grey and Simcoe Foresters military band for 15 years and also played in many other dance and concert bands. Ken was a member of the Silver C’s and local model airplane club. He enjoyed building and flying his own model planes as well as creating many woodworking pieces that he lovingly gifted to family and friends. Ken fondly remembers his years spent at Sauble Beach where he built a cottage and enjoyed his summers.
In keeping with Ken’s wishes, cremation is taking place. A private service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, Owen Sound, 519-376-7492.
As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to Owen Sound Hospital Foundation, or Bennett Centre Long Term Care in Georgetown would be appreciated. Online condolences can be sent to Ken’s family by visiting his memorial at www.woodfuneralhome.ca
