Ken Hodgkinson of Meaford passed away peacefully at Grey Bruce Health Services in Owen Sound on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at the age of 86.
Born in Meaford on January 2, 1937, Ken was a son of the late George and Ivy (nee Jenkins) Hodgkinson.
Ken was the dear friend and beloved husband of Marie Cornfield of Meaford. He was predeceased by his wives Phyllis Hodgkinson (nee Linn) and Jeannine St. Onge – Hodgkinson.
He was the kindhearted and loving father of Bruce Hodgkinson and Heather Hodgkinson (Rick Lanthier) and was predeceased by his sons William and Andrew.
Ken was the very proud grandfather of Kendra, Julie, Karen, Emily Jordan, Jamie (Tyler), and Jessica (Nic).
He will be missed by Stephen (Lauretta) Cornfield, Shelley (Kevin) Hooper, Denyse (Brent) Williams, David (Amy) Cornfield, Margaret Massey, Dennis, Wendy, and Heidi Linn and Jenny’s family. He was the much-loved brother of Glenn Hodgkinson (Georgina) and was predeceased by his siblings Elvira Ormsby (late Lorne), Margaret Ormsby (late Lealand), Charlie Hodgkinson (late Lillian), Marion Eccles (late Lorne), Dorothy Quigley, and Betty Whitfield (late Syd Clarke and Gerald Whitfield). Ken will be remembered as a wonderful uncle to his many nieces, nephews and their families.
Ken was a family man and had a way of keeping people connected. He always took the time to check in with friends and family, even if he hadn’t heard from them in ages. He was generous with his time and knowledge, very much a ‘Jack of All Trades’ and a ‘Go to Guy’ for so many people. Ken had a warm and welcoming smile. He always let you know he was happy so see you, and could talk about anything and everything. When he moved up north to Iron Bridge, he knew nobody, he worked on the roads for the Ministry of Transportation and created a new life and many lifelong friendships. He eventually retired as a Supervisor for the Ministry. He continued to stay connected when he moved back to the Meaford area. His Church of Christ family and his relationship with the Amish has continued to be a very important part of Ken’s life. In his later years Ken enjoyed operating the ‘Amish Express’, a delivery service between Chesley and Iron Bridge, which provided assistance for many Amish families.
A funeral service celebrating Ken’s life will be conducted at the Church of Christ in Meaford on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at 11 o’clock, with a reception following in the fellowship hall. A service of committal and interment will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in Meaford.
As your expression of sympathy, donations to the Church of Christ in Meaford (Cheques Only Please) or the Meaford Hospital Foundation would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON N4L 1B9 to whom arrangements have been entrusted.
