With deep sadness we announce Laverne Crosskill of Meaford passed away peacefully at the Meaford Long Term Care Centre on Saturday, January 13, 2024 in his 86th year.
Born in Meaford on July 18, 1938, he was the son of the late Wilbert and Elsie (nee Rows) Crosskill.
Laverne will be dearly missed by his wife Margaret Fraser of Meaford. Survived by his son Terry Crosskill (Tracey) of Clarksburg and his daughter Connie Crosskill of Barrie, and will be remembered fondly by Marg’s children Bruce Fraser (Chris) and Jackie Fraser (Chris).
He was the proud grandfather of Cory, Erica, Evan, Isaiah, Jacob, Tabatha, Ethan, and great grandfather of Blake.
He will be missed by his sister Doreen Bowins and will be remembered fondly by his nephew Scott and niece Leanne and their families.
Laverne was a hard worker and has farmed all of his life. He started out years ago farming livestock and vegetables with his family and eventually they had apple orchards. He owned and operated ‘Georgianvieu Orchards Ltd.’, which was very much a labour of love. On weekends he enjoyed camping, sometimes not far away but hooked up the trailer and took a break with his family. He then ventured a little further and spent weekends at Sauble, and in later years had a permanent site at the Sauble Resort Campground where he would relax and unwind with Marg. Laverne was a proud member of the Lion’s Club of Meaford and has served as both President and Secretary over the years. He also sat on the Executive of the Georgian Bay Fruit Growers Association.
Family will receive friends at the Ferguson Funeral Home in Meaford on Thursday, January 18, 2024 from 4 until 7 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, January 19, 2024 at 11 a.m. with interment following at Lakeview Cemetery in Meaford.
As your expression of sympathy, donations to the Meaford Hospital Foundation or the Meaford Nursing Home Auxiliary would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON N4L 1B9 to whom arrangements have been entrusted.
