Passed away suddenly at Brightshores Health System, Owen Sound on Saturday, September 28, 2024. Born in Owen Sound on March 8, 1947, Marjorie Sharon “Shari” Douglas (nee Tomlinson) of Owen Sound, was in her 78th year.
Beloved wife of the late Donald “Butch” Douglas. Loving mother of Brent Douglas (Sophie) of Owen Sound and Pam Morton (Greg) of Owen Sound. Cherished grandma of Zoe, Rowan, Leigha and Shelby. Dear sister of Darlene Fraser of Bracebridge, Carol Williams-Bijorgan of Barrie and Ross Tomlinson (Anne-Marie) of Calgary. Shari will also be missed by her nieces, nephews and friends.
Predeceased by her parents Albert and Eletha Tomlinson.
Shari Douglas, a dedicated nurse and palliative care pioneer, graduated from Owen Sound School of Nursing in 1968. She began her career with local physicians Dr. Harada and Dr. MacLean, quickly becoming a respected figure in the community. As palliative care coordinator at the Grey-Bruce Community Care Access Center, she later served as president of the Ontario Palliative Care Association and president of the Canadian Palliative Care Association. Her expertise greatly influenced palliative care practices, highlighted by her role in presenting to the special Senate committee on euthanasia and assisted suicide. Shari’s commitment to improving care and her profound impact on the lives of many will be remembered fondly.
Shari was a key figure in Paynter’s Bay: a dedicated resident nurse, water skiing and windsurfing instructor, beach patrol member, and a nurturing mother to many who entered her home. A wise and wonderful woman, she will be greatly missed.
A funeral service to celebrate Shari’s life will be held at Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th St. W., Owen Sound, 519-376-7492, on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior. Interment will take place in Leith Cemetery.
