Ray passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side, at the Chapman House Hospice in Owen Sound, on Thursday December 1st 2022. Born on May 16th, 1935 in Newmarket, Ray Stewart McKelvie of Owen Sound was in his 88th year. Dearly loved husband and best friend of the late Georgina McKelvie (née Duncan) (2021) for 62 years. Loving father of Scott McKelvie (Lori) of Milton and Susan Tromanhauser (Terry) of Algonquin Highlands. Proud grandfather of Greg, Kaitlin (Mike), Jennifer, Mark, Tamara and great-grandfather of Benjamin. Also survived by his sister, June Maycock (Wayne) of Grand Valley and members of the Duncan family. Ray will be fondly missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Chester and May McKelvie and brothers Roswell, Carl and Glen. Raised in Dundalk, Ray moved to Owen Sound in 1953, embarking on a very successful accounting career. He was proud of living in Owen Sound and was a generous contributor to his community. He served on many boards and committees, including terms as Chair of the Police Services Board. Ray was involved in local hockey for over 50 years in different capacities. He was instrumental in bringing OHL Hockey to Owen Sound in 1989 and remained involved with the team up to his passing. He was honoured by the OHL in 2013 when he was named winner of the Bill Long Award for Distinguished Service and outstanding contributions to the Ontario Hockey League. Ray was also an honoured member of the Owen Sound Sports Hall of Fame. He was a fan of all local Sports teams and could always be found at the arena or ballparks. Ray touched so many lives and will be missed and remembered by all. A Visitation will be held at the Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th Street West, Owen Sound, 519-376-7492 on Monday, December 5, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. A Memorial Service for Ray McKelvie will be held in the Rutherford Room of the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre, 1900 3rd Avenue East, Owen Sound on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Chapman House Hospice or the Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
