Rev. Helen Gwenda Hume of Meaford passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 8th, 2023 with her family by her side at Grey Bruce Health Services in Meaford in her 84th year.
Born in Toronto, Ontario on October 6, 1939, the daughter of the late Frederick & Helen (nee Earle) Botell.
Helen was a nurse, graduating as an R.N. in 1963, and served as a long-standing minister of the United Church of Canada. She will be missed as a dedicated and well-respected member of the Meaford community. She also brought much joy and comfort to many through her tireless pastoral care.
Predeceased by her loving husband Rev. Gordon Hume and her stepson, Peter Hume; Helen is remembered as the loving stepmother of Elizabeth Hume-O’Haire and her husband Jon of Ohio, John and his wife Heidi of Meaford. She is also remembered fondly by Peter’s wife Karzi of New York.
The beloved Grandmother of Bailey Hume of Meaford, Zachary Hume and his wife Danielle of Ohio, and their children Isobel and Soleil, Sean King and his wife Grace of New York and their children Karzi and Roberta, and Heather Scala and her son Santino of Stouffville.
Helen was a dear sister of Joy and her husband Phillip of Brampton and their children Lindsay and Matthew, and of Earlene and her husband Bruce Mathieson of Mississauga, and her son Kirk.
Helen’s family will receive friends for a public visitation on Thursday, February 16th, 2023 from 2 until 5 p.m., with a Legion service prior to visitation. A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, February 17, 2023 at 11 o’clock. Please note that both the visitation and service will take place at the Meaford United Church.
