Surrounded by family, Ruth Elaine Saigle passed away peacefully at the Owen Sound Regional Hospital on December 27th, 2021 in her 92nd year.
Ruth was the beloved wife of the late Sgt. Ernest Clifton Saigle, CD – RCAF, Retired (WWII Veteran). Together, Ruth and Cliff proudly raised four sons. In support of Cliff’s military career, the family moved every few years to CF bases first within Canada and then overseas to Germany. After a final posting in the Belleville-Trenton area, Ruth and Cliff retired and relocated to Owen Sound. Following the death of her husband in 2010, Ruth was granted the Memorial Cross by the Canadian Government. Ruth continued to live in her home and enjoy her garden until, in 2019, she opted to relocate to the Central Place Retirement Community.
Ruth was an intelligent and confident woman. She enjoyed nature and took an active interest in her sons’ hobbies and interests as they were growing up. It was expected that the boys learn to be independent and, as a byproduct of this, they’re all adept in the kitchen – for which Ruth’s daughters-in-law will forever be grateful!
Ruth was an active volunteer in her church and community. For example, she held various levels of responsibility within the Belleville and Owen Sound chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star. She valued the friendships made as a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and as a volunteer with the Alzheimer Society of Owen Sound. Ruth also loved crafts and was an avid quilter.
Ruth will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Loving mother to James (Jim) and his wife Heather of Pembroke, ON, Don and his wife Terry of Parksville, BC, Ken and his wife Penny of Metcalfe, ON and Stan and his wife Sandra of Belleville, ON. Cherished grandmother of Alec, Alison, Brianne, Caleb, Jennifer, Jessica, John, Kathryn, the late Lea, Victoria, Wendy and great-grandmother of Lillian and Oliver. She will be missed by her siblings – Carol Banks of Owen Sound, Edward (Ed) and his wife Lou of Port Hope, and David (Dave) and his wife Terri of Port Hope.,
