Peacefully surrounded by family at Grey Bruce Hospice Chapman House on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. Born in Stratford, Ontario on January 29, 1935, of Owen Sound was in his 91st year.
Beloved husband of the late Dorothy Payton (nee Milligan). Loving father of Gerry (Vivian) of Mississauga, Glenn (Elizabeth) of Nottawa, Patti (Rob) of Owen Sound and Greg (Amy) of Kitchener. Cherished grandpa of Jay (Paige), Ty, Linsey, Neil, Nancy, Leo and Clare. He will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends. Tom will be missed by his friends at Kelso Villa Retirement Home, especially his special friend Edna Dickson.
Tom attended Ryerson Polytechnical University in Electronics. He was a Radio Technician, Salesman in Electronics later sold real estate and more; he retired as a water treatment Plant Operator in Owen Sound.
Tom met Dorothy, the love of his life, in a snowstorm in 1963 and they married shortly after. Tom was devoted to family, his motto was drop everything for his grandchildren, it was evident he cared deeply for those close to him. Tom and Dorothy created many wonderful memories for everyone around them.
Tom enjoyed socializing with friends through his curling events and volleyball evenings. He expressed a warm hello to all on his daily walks. He had a passion for gardening. Tom and Dorothy enjoyed country music, bluegrass jamborees and camping, especially the Payton Reunion. Tom was fondly remembered by his distinctive voice as he detailed his stories. He made a loving lasting impact on all who knew him.
Predeceased by his parents Gerald and Marie Payton, his siblings Gerald, Theresa (Reg Coonan), Herk, Jean (Harold Fisher) and Raymond.
Visitation will be held at Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th St. W., Owen Sound, 519-376-7492, on Monday, February 24, from 5-7 p.m. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s & The Missions Catholic Church, 554 15th St E, Owen Sound, on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m., with Fr. Frances officiating, followed by a reception at the Parish Hall. Spring Interment
