Wally Johnston of Meaford passed away peacefully at Grey Bruce Health Services in Meaford on Saturday, December 25, 2021 in his 90th year.
Born in Meaford on November 5th, 1932, Wally was a son of the late James and Sadie (nee McVittie) Johnston.
Wally married his beloved wife, Fern Cathrae on August 28, 1965, and they were happily married for more than 56 years.
He was the loving father of Marie Wilson (Ron) and Ed Johnston (Carolyn), proud grandfather of Adam and Lucas Johnston; Nathan (Mary), Jonathan, Mathew and Bethany Wilson; and great grandfather to Emma.
Wally was predeceased by his infant son Steven, sister Ellouise Hoggard (late Maurice), brother Len Johnston, brother-in-law Stan Cathrae, sister-in-law Marg Byers, and will be remembered fondly by his many nieces, nephews and their families.
In 1995 Wally retired from P.P.G. in Owen Sound and thoroughly enjoyed being at home caring for his property on the 15/16 in Meaford, where he and Fern raised their family since 1966. His Cook Street Pentecostal Church family was also very important to him. Wally will be remembered as a very thorough story teller and loved to spend the time to share all the details. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A private service will be conducted at the Cook Street Pentecostal Church with interment following at Lakeview Cemetery in Meaford. Masks are mandatory and all Covid-19 rules and restrictions must be respected to keep everyone safe. Service will be available for viewing on YouTube under Cook Street Pentecostal Church after 3 p.m. on Thursday, December 30, 2021.
